Frequently asked questions

What type of wood is used for the pins?

We primarily use 1/8" premium solid Cherry hardwood. We selected Cherry for its elegant grain structure and its ability to hold incredible detail, whether we are laser-etching a design or printing vibrant, full-color artwork.

Is the wood sustainably sourced?

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we create. We source our hardwoods primarily from the American Midwest, where we rely on small-scale, selective harvesting rather than clearcutting. By only harvesting mature trees marked by professional foresters, our suppliers ensure the forest floor has the space and sunlight needed for the next generation of trees to thrive. In a region where forest growth outpaces harvest by over 30%, your pins are as kind to the earth as they are beautiful.

What kind of backing/clutch do they come with?

Standard orders come with secure, nickel-plated butterfly clasps. To ensure your pin sits perfectly and securely, we adjust the number of backings based on the size of the piece: 1” pins include one backing, 2” pins typically include two, and our larger 3” pins feature two to three backings for maximum stability.

Are these pins heavy?

Not at all! One of the greatest advantages of wood is its weight. Our pins are significantly lighter than traditional metal or enamel alternatives. This means they won't sag or pull on thin fabrics like t-shirts or scarves, making them incredibly versatile for any wardrobe.

Do you offer custom shapes, or just standard sizes?

Your imagination is the only limit. Utilizing precision laser cutting, we can contour your pins into almost any custom shape—from intricate logos to organic silhouettes—without being restricted to standard circles or squares.

Can I see a proof before my order is produced?

Yes. We want you to love the final product. For all orders, we provide a digital proof for your approval to ensure the placement, sizing, and details are exactly where they should be before we move into production.

How long does production take?

We take pride in our "Made in the USA" speed and efficiency. For most orders, our standard production time is a swift 2–5 business days. While larger orders may take slightly longer, we always strive to get your pins in your hands as quickly as possible.

Durability and Use

How do I care for my wooden pin?

While our pins are durable, wood is a natural, living material. To keep your pin looking its best for years to come, we recommend avoiding submersion in water or wearing it in heavy rain. If it needs cleaning, a quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth is all it needs.

Will the colors fade over time?

No. We use industrial-grade UV inks and a premium matte clearcoat that are instantly "cured" with ultraviolet light. This process creates a permanent bond with the wood, resulting in a professional finish that is highly resistant to fading and UV damage, even with daily wear.

Product Questions

How accurate are the colors compared to my digital file?

We utilize high-end Mimaki UV printers to achieve exceptional color depth and precision. For the highest level of accuracy, we recommend providing Solid Coated Pantone colors with your artwork, allowing us to match your design to our physical formula guides. Please keep in mind that most monitors are not calibrated for print, and wood is a natural, "warm" material; however, our goal is always to produce a vibrant, faithful representation of your vision.

Does the wood grain show through the print?

By default, we print a "white base" layer beneath your design to make colors pop with total opacity. However, if you are looking for a truly rustic or "stained" aesthetic, we can print directly onto the wood without a base layer, allowing the natural Cherry grain to peek through your artwork.

Is the ink waterproof or scratch-resistant?

The UV curing process makes our inks incredibly resilient. While we don't recommend taking your pin for a swim, the matte finish is water-resistant and stands up beautifully to the typical scratches and scuffs of everyday use.
